Frequently asked questions
How I work, what I do and what I don't.
What types of luminaires do you design?
Indoor and outdoor luminaires, integrating mechanics, optics and electronics: from track spotlights to street and cycle-path lights, from pendants to in-ground luminaires.
Which CAD software do you use?
3D and 2D CAD: Siemens NX, SolidWorks DS, Inventor Autodesk, Creo Parametric PTC, Think3 DPT, Fusion 360 Autodesk and FreeCAD. The CAD system to use is agreed together, based on the needs of the project and your company. DIALux for lighting calculations.
Which standards do your designs follow?
The sector's safety standards: Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU, EN 60598-1 and EN 60598-2 with its related parts, the ecodesign and energy labelling regulations, and any other standards the product requires, through to CE marking.
Do you issue certificates?
No. Type tests are carried out by accredited laboratories. I prepare the product and its documentation and follow the process through to marking.
Do you support industrialisation?
Yes: bills of materials, material and supplier selection, process optimisation, product data in PDM, support with laboratory testing.
Do you build prototypes and run tests in-house?
No, the studio has no in-house laboratory. I manage prototyping and testing through external suppliers and laboratories.
How do you handle confidentiality?
Data you send is used only for the assignment. On request I sign a non-disclosure agreement before receiving any document.
Do you work on site or remotely?
Both. Most of the work is remote; I come on site for kick-off meetings, reviews and tests.
Do you work with companies outside Italy?
Yes, I also work with companies abroad.
How are fees set?
I mainly work on an hourly basis, billed on actual time. For a defined project I quote a fixed fee on the specification. For ongoing collaboration I propose an annual contract with a dedicated block of hours.
Do you have a luminaire to develop or to fix?
Tell me about the product and where it stands. I reply personally, with a proposal or with the questions needed to make one.
